Abstract
This creative project develops solutions for local issues in the Muncie landscape through transforming problematic situations into new opportunities and amenities with public engagement. The project specifically focuses on how flexible informal urban design installations can infuse meaning and value into underutilized spaces. Case studies applying creative adaptation to over-developed landscapes will demonstrate the potential for future ecologically conscious development and educational opportunities for city residents. Research findings about social and economic sustainability will influence the selection of an appropriate community case study site at the Muncie Mall on East McGalliard Road; and offer principles for providing public value with amenities such as health, safety, recreation, and functional landscapes. The goal is to revitalize underutilized urban environments to provide a greater quality of life for local residents.
