Abstract
Many works of this show stem back to the inspiration from 1800’s murano glass blowers like Toso and Salviati. Artists like Matt Urban and Jeff Mack are also heavily inspired by these techniques and traditions while being able to put modern twists on it and pass the knowledge down to others. During the height of Murano glass blowing in the 1800-1900 many of the items being made were not being used. Often made to show off or prove technical skills many of the items lacked function. Understanding why these items differ from mass manufactured counterparts dials down to understanding the history and process of these items. After understanding the process and traditions of the items it should change the perception of them when looking at the treatment by not only the average consumer but museums and collections. All of my process for this show revolves around furnace worked glass and venetian techniques of assembly through the process of furnace worked glass.
