Abstract

Art is a universal language. There are many forms to express oneself; however, people experience a city through art, food, and architecture. A city is a display of a multitude of art forms. It has the most cultural impact by creating unique social interactions and experiences. Public art can re-engage and revitalize dilapidated public spaces to bring life and color to a place. Streets and alleyways transform into public galleries and our city’s themed works of art. The connection between food and architecture is very similar; the two’s principles and design methodology go hand in hand. At their best, architecture and culinary arts simultaneously appeal to many senses. It allows for conversations to be created and to enjoy one’s company. Architecture provides a sense of place and creates an artificial framework that ties in harmony with the environment through research and design by promoting a unique experience between the user and the space itself. STREAT aims to develop a cultural hub for the residents of Chicago’s neighborhoods. It will allow the residents to enhance creativity, promote economic growth, unite people, raise awareness, and embrace culture. Architecture can be used to help create those stimulating experiences.
