Proposing a religious studies course to incorporate service-learning at Ball State University

Abstract

This project was intended to create a religious studies course to incorporate both the study of charity and good works within the realm of religion as well as the use of service-learning at religious institutions. The service-learning component was meant to provide students of religious studies at Ball State University with an experience which allowed them to connect classroom material to real world experiences. The document provided background information regarding the histories and definitions of service-learning and religious studies, as well as a review of literature pertaining to the incorporation of service-learning into religious studies curricula. A compilation of components necessary to implement this course was included, and the project consisted of a proposed syllabus, suggested reflective questions, and recommended readings. Additionally, recommendations for the future of this program were made for the instructor of this course.
