Abstract
This work provides an overview of the differences between the German bassoon and the Baroque bassoon through a comparison of the following works: Vivaldi Bassoon Concerto in C major, RV 477, and the Weber Concerto in F major, op. 75 and additionally it explains why the German bassoon is more popular, despite being more difficult to play. Then an analysis of these two pieces will investigate challenges related to playing the German bassoon such as articulation, tonguing, and fingering. Furthermore this paper will discuss how to use specific fundamentals to play with beautiful tone quality, such as air support and tonguing, during these pieces.
