A close look at the applications of physics in the sport of gymnastics : a literature review and analytical examination : honors thesis [(HONRS 499)]

Abstract

This project will show the correlation between gymnastics and specific laws of physics and will demonstrate specific principles of physics by examining a variety of gymnastic skills. It will describe the sport of gymnastics, the basic concepts of physics, and how they relate to each other. This project will analyze the front-handspring front-tuck on the vault, the giant on the uneven parallel bars, the full turn on beam, and the double back-tuck on the floor exercise. Quantitative and qualitative analyses will be used to understand each of the skills more clearly. Lastly, this paper will discuss the importance of knowledge of physics as a factor in all sports.
