Nurses' knowledge, beliefs, motivation and computer use and satisfaction

Abstract

Nurses are faced with new challenges of integrating information technology into nursing practice, and are mandated by the pace of technology t learn the use and application of computers. The purpose of this correlational study is to examine relationships among knowledge, beliefs, motivations, and nurses' computer use and satisfaction. The study is a replication study of Burkes' study (1991), using Vroom's (1964) Expectancy Theory as a framework. The projected sample is 100 registered nurses in rural areas of New Mexico working in a hospital setting. Permission will be obtained from Ball State University and participating institutions. Responses will be confidential and the data will remain anonymous. No risks have been identified. The study will provide information about computer use of nurses for staff development.
