Abstract

We have the opportunity to correct the impacts of some 200 years of heavy industry. We must move away from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy to reduce our carbon footprint. The purpose of this diploma project is to design a prototype Environmental Intervention Center that would actively fight against some of the major environmental issues caused by humans while also educating the public on how to achieves this. This Facility will employ five strategies: food production, water collection, air filtration, energy production and environmental education. The first four strategies cover the main necessities that we need to live as humans. The last strategy is meant to act as a preventive measure. This protype is intended for use nearly anywhere in the world in rural and urban applications. This protype will be in balance with nature as it demonstrates not only our impact on nature but also how important and impactful nature is on our emotions and perception of space. Specifically, biophilic design is used to create beautiful, peaceful, and inviting spaces that connects people with nature. This connection will help lead the visitors in learning how it is possible to reverse environmental damage and enhance human health.
