Rethinking Stadiums

Abstract

This project explores redeveloping stadium design to incorporate local every day use. Stadiums are currently used only for large events and this limited use is not good for the environment. Through the inclusion of residential units, offices, and a first-floor pedestrian streetscape, this stadium will be a focal point for the surrounding community. The residential apartment zones will offer an opportunity for people to live within the stadium and have access to both the larger sports community as well as be a part of an in-building neighborhood. Office spaces will offer a unique work experience that connects to the vibrant stadium atmosphere. A first floor streetscape offers the local community a place to come together and shop, eat, and celebrate. This project explores the design and development of a multi-purpose stadium through sustainable design. Sustainable design agendas help create an eco-friendly environment for the stadium to counteract the carbon footprint it creates. Through the use of public transit instead of a large unused parking lot will lower the footprint a stadium would typically take up. Eco-friendly utilities and materials will be used to help create a sustainable design.
