Abstract
While dance and architecture initially seem like opposing forces of artistic expression, they can create emotional, unique responses, addressing human scaled figures of design and inviting audience. As a space – making agent, architecture consists of fixed forms that impact the environment in a variety of aspects. In parallel, dance emphasizes a sequence of human movement accentuating space and time. Similarly, to architecture, dancing requires a central concept or motivation. Both disciplines can work together to create distinct types of spatial experiences such as interactive, immersive, and inclusive. Two significant points give character to downtown Fort Wayne: the presence of three rivers, and the location of a campus with fine-art programs. The rivers play an integral part in connecting the whole area. The art campus shows a variety of buildings that have developed over the years covering a wide spectrum of artistic fields. This architecture project takes advantage of alleyways influenced by the existing conditions of the campus. It focuses on using dance forms and movements to offer a journey for locals and visitors to enjoy the built and natural environment.
