Underground Railroad Escape Map Activity

Abstract

This map activity presents students with the challenge of drawing the route they would have taken via the Underground Railroad to escape from the largest plantation in the South and reach Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Students draw a route avoiding dangerous wildlife, mountains, and a slave catcher. The map is used in conjunction with the book "Elijah of Buxton."
