Community by design : developing community through sustainable design : rethinking Scheidler Apartments

Abstract

This thesis investigated two major issues that played out through a design project. The first issue was developing strategies that promote community through design. The second issue was that of sustainable development and building methods.The project consists of the design and development of an apartment complex that incorporates the issues of community and sustainability. Three different building scales were investigated: the unit, the cluster, and the site.
