Abstract

Lavendamycin and its demethylated analogues are potent anticancer agents, especially active against lung and pancreatic cancers for which there are no known cures. Making their use and testing difficult is the incredibly low solubility of these compounds in pharmaceutical and organic solvents. In an attempt to remedy this problem, the synthesis of an oxy-acetic acid functionality and the 11’ position was attempted. In addition to these attempts, the deprotection of the N-CBZ-tryptopan intermediate in this synthesis was improved with a slightly increased yield and a cleaner product.
